In individual psychotherapy, the client works with a therapist on an individual basis. Individual therapy aims to identify barriers to success, alleviate internal distress, improve relationships, and develop strategies and new skills that advance a client's functioning.  Treatment is tailored to the needs of each individual. Psychotherapy focuses on setting and reaching achievable goals, developing skills, and focusing on strengths to improve and change. When the client is a child, individual treatment nearly always involves play and parents are involved significantly in treatment planning with frequent (often weekly) communication/consultation.

In group therapy up to 6 clients work collaboratively with the therapist. Group therapy provides a supportive environment where clients with similar problems develop and learn strategies together to improve their lives.

Groups focus on helping people who use technology excessively. This includes the compulsive use of video games, computer games, web sites, TV, and cell phones. The emphasis is on learning to control, limit, or eliminate use, depending on the individual’s goals for therapy.

Groups have a didactic curriculum component as well as a supportive social component. Participants will learn how to limit and control their compulsive behaviors and develop alternative coping strategies.

Consultation with outside professionals can often be useful to identify areas of difficulty and to make recommendations to address concerns. Dr. Spector is experienced working with parents, school administrators, and other mental health providers to coordinate and integrate care for and treatment of many types of challenges.  Dr. Spector often consults with parents or professionals to discuss concerns and develop recommendations to assist individuals in meeting their goals.  He is also available to accompany parents to IEP (individual education plans) and other school meetings and to assist adults in advocating for their needs.
